English Theatre Camp (ages 8-12) 2 February
The English Theatre and Playbuilding Camp is a fun and interactive program designed for learners aged 8-12 to cultivate and support English literacy, social-emotional connections, and communication skills provided by interactive physical theatre practices and play-building. Participants will devise their own short plays, learning the principles of physical comedy, while building their own characters and narratives.
Breakdown of daily activities:
9:00-10:00: Welcome and Warm Up Games
10:00-10:45: Play Building Skills
10:45-11:00: SNACK
11:00-12:00: Character Creation
12:00-13:00: LUNCH AND FREE TIME
13:00-15:00: Scene Creation and devising
Themes explored through the week:
Character Creation: Constructing personas from the ground up. How do they talk, how do they walk, what makes them different from the actor?
The Comedic Body: how to create comedy in a scene.Writing and performing dialogue: What does the body say without words vs. what must be communicated through text, and how to know the difference.
Playwriting: How to write a script, and how to communicate the vision and intention of a scene.
Collaborative Process: How to devise a story from beginning to end as an ensemble working as a team, and not a top down hierarchy.
Direction: How to “outside” eye a collaborative piece, and how to frame critical feedback that makes a scene better.
Physical Storytelling: How to use the body as the primary creative tool, not relying on fancy props, lighting, or costumes.
Who Should Join?
The camp runs with a minimum of four participants and a maximum of ten to ensure enough space for creative movement and collaboration. While the program is designed for ages 8–12, enthusiastic 13-year-olds are also welcome to join.
We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise. If you need to cancel your child’s enrollment, please notify us in writing as soon as possible.
- More than three weeks before the program start date: Full refund, minus a 7% processing fee.
- Less than three weeks before the start date: 80% refund, minus a 7% processing fee.
- Within five business days of the start date: 30% refund, minus a 7% processing fee.
- On or after the first day: No refunds. Missed days are not refundable.
Minimum Participation
Each Linden camp requires a minimum of three participants. If this number is not met, families will be notified at least three weeks in advance and may choose a full refund (including fees) or keep their booking while registration remains open. If the camp does not proceed, a full refund will be issued.
