Max is an Academic Coach, editor, and writer. He is a graduate of the UC Irvine MFA program and author of the novel EXES (Catapult, 2017). His work has appeared in Publishers Weekly, Literary Hub, Poets & Writers, Day One, and elsewhere. For the past twenty years, Max has taught English, fiction writing, screenwriting, literature, film, and composition at UC Irvine, the University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College, and a number of independent schools.

Max prefers to focus on what these modes have in common rather than on their surface differences. Just as all reading requires creativity, sensitivity, and curiousity, all writing demands clarity, nuance, and precision. He believes that every writer possesses a distinct point of view and should strive to develop an equally distinctive voice on the page. In his experience, all students—regardless of their facility with language and/or their learning differences—can improve the shape and substance of their writing. Max’s approach is kind but rigorous, patient but lively, and always attuned to his students’ particular needs and interests.
