Makia
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Hi, I’m Makia! I’m a licensed clinical social worker with a passion for working with families, youth, and young adults. I’m also a mother, helper, advocate, listener, agent for change, therapist, and counselor!Â
I believe that we are all unique individuals with different backgrounds, values, and life experiences. Part of my work is understanding my clients, their difficulties, and focusing on their strengths.Â
Before becoming a therapist, I was a teacher. Through teaching, I learned that my one-on-one relationships with my students and my alliance with their parents are essential parts of student learning and growth. After leaving the teaching field, I earned a master’s of clinical social work from the University of Denver with a concentration in family systems. I have worked with adults, children, and families in various settings, including hospitals, public and private schools, and community-based organizations.Â
Having lived overseas for eight years, I understand the nuances of living in another country, raising multi-cultural children, and creating a sense of belonging and community in a foreign land.Â
I specialize in: life transitions (i.e., grief/loss, moving abroad, etc.), trauma/post-traumatic stress, anxiety, parent education/support, school-based interventions, teacher training, crisis, mindfulness, and play and art-based Interventions.Â
I’m from the United States and I speak English.
