General Academic Support

Hi! I’m Eric. I hold a B.A. in the History of Art & Visual Culture from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a M.A. in Aural & Visual Culture from Goldsmiths, University of London.

As an academic coach, I offer a combination of patience, perceptiveness, empathy, and an ability to adapt my approach to the specific needs and skill-sets of different types of students. I’ve worked as a teaching assistant and as an academic coach in one-on-one and group settings with neurotypical and neurodivergent students from varied socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds in learning centers and secondary schools in the UK and USA. I have been formally trained in the pedagogical methodology utilized by Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, which includes the use of the Socratic Method of instruction, and emphasizes the importance of developing strong concept imagery, or Gestalt Imagery, in order to improve reading comprehension, written and expressive language skills, and critical thinking skills. Although I’m originally from Connecticut, both of my parents are from Finland, so I can empathize with and understand the challenges that third culture kids face as they live in between different cultures.

I’m passionate about traveling and I’ve recently moved to Berlin from Oakland, California. Some of my interests include reading, writing, cinema, music, cycling, and learning German.

I specialize in the humanities, general academic support, art, academic and creative writing (middle school, high school, and university levels).

I’m from the United States and I speak English.
